RESEARCH
ON MATHEW POWER
It
appears that after years of research we're finding some leads
on Mathew. The search for Mathew has been so difficult that I've
decided to add this new section on him with material am working
on. It is reassuring to find Mathew as the Mate of the ship "Hiram",
the same name Thomas (son of Mathew) used for his youngest son.

GOALS
After
many years of research of my family roots, I've discovered my
origins in England, Wales and Germany. The documents you'll find
on this site summarize my findings and the spread of my family
in England, Germany, Chile, Argentina, New Zealand, Australia,
Canada and the United States.
After
nearly 20 years of research, we have found Mathew Power (my ggg
grandfather) sailing in and around Plymouth, Devon, England in
the early 1800s. He was first the Mate of the ship Hiram and soon
became the Master of several ships. Mathew
was born in Co. Waterford, Ireland, abt. 1787.
My
current goal is to obtain additional information about Mathew
Power, who married Elizabeth Fisher in the Parish of Northam,
North Devon, England in October 28, 1807 (view
certificate). They had four children: Mary (b. Feb 2, 1808,
deceased as a child?), Mary and Eliza, twins (b. Sept 30, 1810)
and Thomas (b. June 23, 1819). Young Thomas later became the father
of Thomas Mathew (see below)
I'm
also attempting to find information about Thomas
Mathew Power, my great grandfather, son of Thomas (see above).
The Liverpool census of 1861 shows Thomas Mathew and parents residing
at 46 Chatnam Street in Liverpool. Thomas Mathew was then 17 years
old and shows as a "Ship Broker" professional. He made
many trips between Liverpool and Valparaiso, Chile. He sailed to from Chile (unknown origin) aboard the sailing ship "Panama". Thomas Mathew
was born July 13, 1843 in Plymouth, son of Thomas Power and Elizabeth
Jeffery. (see birth certificate). Thomas Mathew died on September 28, 1888, in Port Spain, Trinidad, Bristish West Indies.
I'm grateful to all of you that have contributed to this site
with information and ideas.
